Islantilainen Sigur Rós on yksi vaihtoehtomusiikin mielenkiintoisin kokoonpano, joka esittää kappaleensa itse kehittämällään hopelandic-kielellä.
Sigur Rósin ilmavan kaunis äänimaailma koostuu aistivoimaisista unimaisemista, joissa on viipyilevä tunnelma ja omintakeinen ilmapiiri. Islantilaisyhtye on säveltänyt musiikkia myös elokuviin sekä Merce Cunninghamin tanssiryhmälle ja Tanskan kuninkaalliselle baletille. Reykjavikilaisnelikko on antanut vaikutteita mm. superyhtye Radioheadille, jonka kanssa se on myös tehnyt yhteistyötä.
